February 2008

Missionary’s Message

February is the month of “Love”. Right? The grocery store candy aisle tells us that, by its shelves bursting at its seams with heart-shaped candies bearing various messages and variations of “Be mine” or “I love you”. Travel agencies remind us of the month’s theme in their offerings of special vacation packages for you and your spouse. Let alone the décor that dresses store front windows even before our calendars turn to the month of February. Even here in South Africa store owners and television stations did not fail to remind everyone of what this month is all about. Unfortunately, after we have been a Christian for a while we tend to forget, but in the midst of all of the cute cards, candies and the vibrant bouquets of red roses that were frequently seen, God reminded me of His love for each and every one of us. He reminded me that He, unlike many, who seem to limit their expression of love or appreciation for someone to the month of February, is constantly showing His love for me and all people day in and day out. His love is limitless and He loves us genuinely and unconditionally and in a way that NONE can compare. His love is not even able to be boxed up in the form of a box of chocolates…it cannot be contained! Did you see that kind of love this month? If not, you can see it this month too…God doesn’t change…He is LOVE...seek Him and you will be loved in a way that you never have been before.

One-Day Event

Leadership Summit held a 4-hour promotional event at Boitsebelo Secondary School, one of our strong supporting and participating schools. The event was a huge success! We had over 500 students in attendance, all of whom showed great enthusiasm and excitement. The four hours were chock-full of active group games, competitions between grades, praise and worship, and learning! The Lord was clearly at work in the hearts and minds of the students by how much they learned and their ability to express it in words.

“The thing that I have learned is that you mustn’t give up on your dreams because once you give up you’re not going anywhere or because you don’t know what you want to be in life and your dreams are your things and don’t listen to other people just focus on your dreams or goals that you want to achieve and the only person that can help you is God if you allow God in your life, nothing or no one that can stop you from achieving your goals. God is the only person that can help you achieve you goals or dreams” (Thabang).

“I have learned that everybody has a purpose in life, and have goals or things that you want to achieve in life, and you can fulfill your goals. But only if you put God first. Don’t give up in life (Joy Motholo Mapaseka, Grade 9)

“I understand that everyone has a purpose in life and that God has a plan for my life. I also learned that I must never give up on my dreams” (Nthoroane Kananelo).

Mokoena Disebo said, “I have learnt that God has a purpose for me. I must not sit back and watch others do something with their lives because God has a purpose for me…”

Launch Pad

As I mentioned in my previous newsletter, I have been given the opportunity to teach one of the discipleship classes in the village once a week. So, every Friday for the last couple of weeks I have been going to Intabazwe to teach at the New Life In Jesus church.Unfortunately, we have been struggling to have a solid group of people in attendance. A lot of which is due to the fact that last years class was mostly youth who were in their last year of schooling and they have all sense gone off to university or have gotten jobs elsewhere. So, we can’t really complain although my co-teacher and I both have been desperately wanting and praying that our class size would increase from the five young girls that have been showing up regularly. This last week, that prayer was answered seeing that we doubled our attendance to 10 people!

Container Arrives!!!

One of the big prayer requests of the last several weeks within the ministry has been that the container, which contained all of the printed curriculums, would arrive from the States and make it through customs and to our property on time. I didn’t even have to see the truck hauling the container to know that it had arrived as was planned last Friday morning because of the screaming that could be heard from a mile away the moment it pulled on to the property. We were all so incredibly excited to see all of our hard work finally come to completion as we unloaded the boxes and boxes containing 30,000 copies of 2 of the new curriculums that I did a lot of the researching and writing for, others spent hours editing, reading, re-reading, designing, and printing. It was a long process and such a team effort that seeing it in its final printed stage ready to be distributed to all of the students was like a dream come true!
